Grand Narrative: The Army Lists

So a few months back you may recall that I started drafting some army lists for the Grand Narrative and was trying to decide on which of these lists I would take. Whilst I did eventually go with my Canoptek Court list mainly due to it not requiring massive amounts of painting and rebasing (I'm looking at you, Transcendent C'Tan and Monolith), I also thought it made for a cool narrative as well as showcasing my journey through the Necron armies I've collected for around 25 years, from the Scarab cannon fodder walls I used to mitigate the hated Phase Out* rule in 3rd Edition, to my favourite conversion/painting project (the 5 Elements/4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse Crypteks) and, with a quick revision, a converted Lord that is based very heavily on my very first Lord from 3rd Edition (and is now my only noble for the Grand Narrative).

What I didn't know back then however is that, although I would still be playing 2,000 point battles, I would select my 2,000 points worth of models from an Order of Battle made up of 3,000 points. PLOT TWIST!

So I have now revised what I am taking to Warhammer World with me to include a full 3,000 points worth of Necrons, but now I was faced with a new problem; I am spoiled for choice in an event that gives you very little preparation time for each game. Therefore I have elected to to draft several army lists in advance with narrative reasonings behind them, that way I can pick and choose a list efficiently without too much planning to best suit the narrative being told by the Lords of War. I may not necessarily use all of them but they are there just in case the narrative requires them.

For reference, here is what I will be taking in my Order of Battle:

Epic Heroes

C'Tan Shard of the Void Dragon

Characters

1 x Lord (Legends)
2 x Technomancers (1 with Metalodermal Tesla Weave)
1 x Plasmancer
1 x Chronomancer
1 x Psychomancer
1 x Royal Warden
1 x Skorpekh Lord
1 x Lokhust Lord
1 x Hexmark Destroyer

Battleline

2 x 20 Necron Warriors w/Gauss Flayers
1 x 10 Immortals w/Tesla Carbines

Other

1 x 10 Flayed Ones
1 x 3 Ophydian Destroyers
1 x 6 Skorpekh Destroyers w/2 Plasmacytes
3 x 6 Canoptek Scarab Swarms
1 x 6 Lokhust Destroyers
3 x 1 Heavy Lokhust Destroyers w/Gauss Destructors
1 x 6 Canoptek Wraiths w/Vicious Claws & Particle Casters
1 x Canoptek Doomstalker
1 x Canoptek Reanimator

And so from this list totaling 2,970 points (leaving some room for further enhancements) I will be writing up 4 different lists, one for each detachment excluded the Obeisance Phalanx (as I have barely any Nobles and no Lychguard or Triarch units). I've named these lists thusly: Conclave Research, Enemy Elimination, Take & Hold and Invasion Decurion. Can you guess which list uses which detachment? Have a guess before I spoil it for you.

Guesses locked? Excellent, let's begin...

CONCLAVE RESEARCH

Detachment: Canoptek Court

Epic Heroes

C'Tan Shard of the Void Dragon

Characters

1 x Royal Warden (Warlord)
2 x Technomancers (1 with Metalodermal Tesla Weave)
1 x Plasmancer
1 x Chronomancer
1 x Psychomancer

Battleline

1 x 10 Immortals w/Tesla Carbines
2 x 20 Necron Warriors w/Gauss Flayers

Other

2 x 6 Canoptek Scarabs
1 x 6 Canoptek Wraiths w/Vicious Claws & Particle Casters
1 x Canoptek Doomstalker
1 x Canoptek Reanimator
2 x 1 Lokhust Heavy Destroyers w/Gauss Destructors

This list totals 1,985 points, leaving a little room for possible future enhancements. This is the list I will use for when my Khertet Dynasty have the primary objective of researching whatever macguffin the organisers throw at us, be that of ancient artifacts, strange anomalies that may pop up during the campaign or other curiosities. This list is actually based on my original 2,000 point list albeit with some tweaks to cater for my full Order of Battle, most notably the removal of 1 Heavy Lokhust Destroyer and 1 Scarab unit in exchange for a second 20 man Warrior unit and a Royal Warden who will be leading the expedition, acting as the eyes and ears of the Phaeron themselves.

ENEMY ELIMINATION

Detachment: Annihilation Legion

Epic Heroes

C'Tan Shard of the Void Dragon

Characters

1 x Skorpekh Lord (Warlord)
1 x Lokhust Lord w/Lord's Blade & Resurrection Orbs
1 x Hexmark Destroyer
1 x Royal Warden

Battleline

10 x Immortals w/Tesla Carbines

Other

1 x 6 Skorpekh Destroyers w/2 Plasmacytes
1 x 3 Ophydian Destroyers
3 x 1 Lokhust Heavy Destroyers w/Gauss Destructors
1 x 6 Lokhust Destroyers
1 x 10 Flayed Ones
1 x 6 Canoptek Wraiths w/Vicious Claws & Particle Casters
2 x 6 Canoptek Scarabs
1 x Canoptek Doomstalker

This list totals 2,000 points on the nose. I always have fun with an all Destroyer list although they are typically not very competitive but, hey, this is the Grand Narrative, winning is not the focus of the event and telling a great story is.  This is the "we need to clear this area of enemies, send in those lunatic Destroyers" force, so if my alliance needs an enemy obliterated, this is the list I will pick to do that. I had to use non Destroyer/Flayed One units to pad this list out as I do not have enough to field a full Destroyer army, so instead I picked the most killy background units I had to fill out this list.

TAKE & HOLD

Detachment: Awakened Dynasty

Characters

1 x Necron Lord (Warlord)
1 x Royal Warden
1 x Chronomancer
1 x Plasmancer
1 x Psychomancer
1 x Technomancer w/Metalodermal Tesla Weave
1 x Skorpekh Lord

Battleline

1 x 10 Immortals w/Tesla Carbines
1 x 20 Warriors w/Gauss Flayers
1 x 20 Warriors w/Gauss Flayers

Other

1 x Canoptek Doomstalker
3 x 6 Canoptek Scarabs
1 x 6 Canoptek Wraiths w/Vicious Claws & Particle Casters
3 x 1 Lokhust Heavy Destroyers w/Gauss Destructors
1 x 6 Skorpekh Destroyers w/2 Plasmacytes

This list totals 1,985 points, leaving a little room for possible future enhancements. Based loosely on the kind of lists I would field way back in 3rd edition, I was not prepared to compromise on the full Scarab contingent this time around as those old lists used loads of Scarab shields, and being the Awakened Dynasty loads of characters were most definitely on the cards here. This is the force I will go with when my alliance needs to storm and hold a critical position, so important is the location that even my only Legends unit, Lord Kharimekh the First, feels compelled to lead the Khertet forces in this endeavor. Keeping with the 3rd edition list theme, Kharimekh was the very first character I ever used in a game so to be able to field him in an official capacity is really exciting for me.

This list is may drop 10 points depending on if the event organisers allow cross enhancements.

INVASION DECURION

Detachment: Hypercrypt Legion

Epic Heroes

C'Tan Shard of the Void Dragon

Characters

1 x Lord (Warlord)
1 x Plasmancer
1 x Psychomancer
2 x Technomancers (1 with Metalodermal Tesla Weave)
1 x Hexmark Destroyer

Battleline

1 x 10 Immortals w/Tesla Carbines
1 x 20 Necron Warriors w/Gauss Flayers

Other

1 x Canoptek Doomstalker
1 x Canoptek Reanimator
1 x 6 Canoptek Scarabs
1 x 6 Canoptek Wraiths w/Vicious Claws & Particle Casters
1 x 10 Flayed Ones
3 x 1 Lokhust Heavy Destroyer
1 x 3 Ophydian Destroyers

This list totals 2,000 points on the nose, assuming the use of enhancements across detachments is allowed. I had to build a list around the idea of a first contact/initial invasion in case the narrative called for it, and if I get any excuse to create a Hypercrypt Legion list I'll take it. I made sure to include all the vanguard-esque units in this list, as well as all the units I plan on dropping down to annoy the enemy (Psychomancer appearing in a ruin, Warriors dropping down to wall of areas etc).

* If you are unaware of what the "Phase Out" rule was, it was essentially a rule from 3rd edition that made Necrons auto lose once they lost 75% of their Necron units. Fortunately, Scarabs were not classified as Necrons and neither were Pariahs, Spyders and Monoliths. It is not a rule I miss.
