My Hobby Bingo 2024: A Special Eleventh Project

So I teased this newest project over at the Project Side Facebook page, but this is a very different hobby bingo entry for a few reasons... One, it's not a Games Workshop model. Two, it's not a model purpose built for painting. Three, I didn't paint this for myself but as a request from a good friend of mine to be a mascot for a Street Fighter tournament being held in December. That might give the game away to some degree...

Recently I reviewed Space Marine II which was the hobby being made into a video game, well today we're looking at video games being made into hobby...

Terry Bogart Amiibo

So what have I technically done with this? It looks like a normal Terry amiibo right? Well, I painted the jacket, hat and shoes green. It was an unusual request from my friend but not without reason. See, he is an amazing Street Fighter player who mains Terry for Street Fighter 6 as he recently became available for that game. He's entering a tournament where the prize money is beyond anything I could comprehend, and he uses Terry's green colours when playing him, as such he thought it would be cool to have a unique Amiibo to have next to him as a mascot, so he came to me to help with that.

This was an interesting project for me as amiibos do not lend well to acrylic paints, that on top of spraying and repainting the amiibo would ruin the amiibo's aesthetics and highlighting the painted parts would look very odd compared to the rest of the model. It forced me out of my comfort zone as I had to paint all the relevant areas with brush on primer (for the paint to stick to), then I painted those sections Grey Seer before whacking down 4-5 layers of Warp Lightning Contrast that had been thinned. The result is what you see above. My friend was very happy and it has received very positive feedback so I was very happy with the results. A fun little project this!

So this was a fairly easy model to place on my bingo sheet. This was pretty much the very definition of a wildcard entry, and so that is where Terry Bogart will go.

I do have a few more Necrons I need to paint up for the Grand Narrative still so I expect they will crop up in my next Hobby Bingo. I did make a start on some Necromunda models but then things came up so maybe they'll crop up soon as well. Either way, back to some Games Workshop miniatures next time. Maybe.

Also, if you want a Terry Bogart amiibo to try this yourself, you can grab a fresh one over on Amazon - use this link here to make your purchase and help out the blog at the same time!
